Dear Friend,

One of the primary objectives of New Life Ministries is to encourage people to read the beloved King James Version Bible. One of the ways we have been able to do that is by reproducing portions of scripture in what we’ve called the Readers Edition Format — an easier to read format with wider columns that go across the page — much like this letter.

While this reading format is not entirely new, it is rarely used for scripture today. It is used extensively for nearly every other kind of book— especially books that are intended to be read for pleasure. And while it is a privilege to read the Bible in any format, most people will agree that reading it for an extended period of time is tiring to the eyes. The eye movement required by shortened columns and the breaking of a sentence into multiple verses and the verse numbering often makes reading more difficult.

Verse numbers were originally  added to the Bible only about 450 years ago and chapter divisions about 750 years ago. As an aid to referencing, cross indexing and scholarly debate, these divisions are indispensable. But as an aid to reading it can be cumbersome. You have surely noticed that best-selling novels, story and history books and even school textbooks are printed in a much easier to read format.

With our objective in mind, we have so far been able to complete the entire New Testament and from the Old Testament, Psalm 119, The Prophet Samuel, and now The Prophet Jeremiah. And I want to offer you this newest 100-page attractive book The Prophet Jeremiah for your reading enjoyment — as a free gift.

In addition to being prophetic, the Bible is story and history and as such needs to be comprehended and enjoyed. I personally  believe that this numberless format is far superior to the “new version” approach in making the Bible easier to read. I think you will agree within the first few pages. If you’ve not read scripture in this format before, you may discover the Bible all over again.

Although the writing of Jeremiah is generally categorized as prophecy, it is also a telling glimpse of history regarding the people of Judah — and people of a similar bent in our generation. This intriguing story is about a man who, in his youth, was divinely called of God for an almost overwhelming responsibility. Jeremiah becomes a heartbroken prophet, laboring for more than forty years, proclaiming a message of doom to the stiff-necked people of Judah.

Despised and persecuted by his countrymen, Jeremiah bathes his harsh prophecies in tears of compassion. Throughout his sermons and signs he faithfully declares that surrender to God’s will is the only way to escape calamity.

In so doing, he is threatened in his own hometown, tried for his life by the priests and prophets of Jerusalem, put in stocks, forced to flee from the king, publicly humiliated by the false prophet Hananiah, and thrown into a cistern.

The Prophet Jeremiah is exciting reading — especially as it relates to today’s Christian culture and the pattern for rejection that Jesus predicted for his prophetic voices in these last days. My prayer is that The Prophet Jeremiah will help some of us hear God’s warnings for our generation — before it’s too late.
